How To Install Vortex Front Sprocket Review
Posted : adminOn 4/24/2018Originally posted by luketrot There are a lot of bikes that come stock with 16t front sprockets and I havn't notice any wear on my guides after 2000 miles. Worse case is after 7-10K you have to replace a $30 sprocket. You and I both know, alot of people have no idea how to change that 30.00 sproket much less maintain their chain tension.can be pricey if you DON't know.
Best bet is to just put a 520 kit 17/46 and that should be fine, get the sprokets cryo froze and itll last for a long time, dont cost that much either. Dropping a tooth in the front is a much cheaper than going up the 3 in the back(the equivalent). I've had mine done like that for a couple of monthes now and it makes a huge difference.
I wouldn't go any lower than one in the front. Once you drop to a 15 tooth sprocket the teeth will wear faster (a problem with Ducati's). I have seen front sprockets as small as 14 teeth, but need replacement way to often. So if you are looking at changing the rear sprocket to avoid early chain wear, you will likely have to replace the chain anyways so it will fit around the larger rear sprocket. And if thats the case, you might as well go to 520 chain and sprocket set. But IMO, its cheaper and easier to drop a tooth in the front.
